Terms of use

Linesmith · 2026-10-05.2 · 5 October 2026

1. Product and contact

Linesmith is desktop software for transcription, subtitles, translation and dubbing. Linesmith is developed and licensed by an individual developer working under the AlgoWisp brand; in these terms "AlgoWisp" means that developer. Product support: [email protected]. These terms concern the licence to use Linesmith. Payments and purchase administration through Polar are also governed by Polar's Buyer Terms. Polar acts as merchant of record and reseller; the product licence is separate from Polar's payment agreement.

2. Accepting terms and existing purchases

For a new licence or trial, the application asks you to read and accept these terms before first use. You can read the privacy notice separately and save a copy of the documents and your local acceptance record from the legal documents window. A privacy notice is information, not a request for blanket consent.

If you already purchased a licence under earlier terms or advertised commitments, those purchased rights remain in effect. A later notice, application update or continued use does not by itself replace those commitments or require you to accept less favourable new terms. Changes affecting an existing purchase require a lawful basis and any agreement or notice required by applicable law.

3. Trial and paid licences

The free trial permits processing up to three videos. It does not automatically become a paid subscription and does not charge a payment method. A paid licence allows use on up to two activated computers under your or your organisation's control. Keep your licence key private; do not sell copies of Linesmith or make your key publicly available. Any transfer or use expressly protected by mandatory law remains available.

Monthly and yearly plans provide use and released updates while the subscription is valid, subject to the purchase terms and consumer rights. The Lifetime plan provides a continuing licence for the purchased Linesmith version and free updates within major version 4 when released. It does not promise every future major version or unlimited AI service usage. Earlier advertised entitlements are preserved.

Paid licences are activated and periodically checked through Polar. After a successful validation, the current application allows an offline grace period of up to 14 days. Continued offline use beyond that period may require another validation. This does not remove any purchased entitlement or statutory remedy. Support can help with an activation limit or an unavailable validation service.

4. Price, renewal and cancellation

The checkout and order confirmation state the applicable price, currency, taxes, billing interval and renewal terms. AI API charges are separate from the Linesmith licence. You choose and pay the AI provider directly under that provider's terms.

Manage purchases and cancel recurring billing through the Polar customer portal, also linked in your purchase email or the application's licence section. Contact [email protected] for payment issues and product support for help finding your purchase. Cancellation, termination dates and any repayment of unused periods follow the applicable purchase terms and mandatory law. Nothing here imposes a cancellation penalty or excludes a legally required refund.

5. Refunds, withdrawal and product faults

Refund and withdrawal requests can be made to Polar using the portal or [email protected]; product support can help direct your request. State the purchase email, order reference if available and your request. An application's uninstall button is not a refund request.

Consumer rights, including any right of withdrawal, cancellation, conformity, repair, replacement, price reduction or refund that applies to your purchase, are preserved. Downloading, installing or checking this box is not by itself a waiver of these rights. Where immediate supply of digital content lawfully affects a withdrawal right, the specific prior consent, acknowledgement and confirmation required by applicable law must be obtained at purchase. These terms do not retrospectively supply those steps or declare all purchases non-refundable.

6. Your material and output

You retain your rights in the material you provide. Linesmith does not acquire ownership of your videos, transcripts, translations or voice recordings merely because you process them. Ownership and permitted use of generated output may depend on the source material, law and your chosen provider's terms.

Use material you own or are authorised to process. For other people's speech or voices, obtain the necessary permission and use a lawful basis for personal data. Do not impersonate people deceptively, create unauthorised voice clones, infringe copyright or use the software for unlawful activity. A speaker's agreement to recording does not necessarily authorise cloning, publication or disclosure to every AI provider.

7. AI services and voice creation

Cloud features use the API service and key you configure. Before sending project content, the application describes the destination and categories of data for that feature and asks you to allow the operation. You can decline and use available local features. This product control does not replace your organisation's data protection obligations, a processing agreement, third-party permissions or a lawful international transfer mechanism.

Read the privacy notice for the specific data sent. In particular, Gemini dubbing can send original speech in chunks of up to eight minutes with brief overlap, and voice creation sends a voice sample and, where required, a consent recording. Created voices may persist in your provider account; deleting a local project does not delete them there.

Provider requirements also apply. Google Gemini API requires users to be at least 18 and restricts API clients likely to be accessed by under-18s. Its terms limit the service to professional or business development purposes and require paid services for API clients made available in the EEA, Switzerland or the UK. Free Gemini API services may use submitted content and responses for improvement and human review: do not send sensitive, confidential or personal information through those unpaid services. Check Google's current API terms and your account settings.

8. Accuracy, availability and costs

Transcription, translation, speaker separation and synthetic speech can make mistakes, omit words or alter meaning. Check the output before publishing or relying on it, especially for medical, legal, safety or other consequential material. Linesmith does not provide professional advice.

Processing depends on your hardware, files, installed models and provider availability. Cloud providers set their own prices, quotas, safety rules and retention policies. Retries and multiple speech-generation requests may consume quota or incur charges. Model or service changes can affect a feature; mandatory conformity and support obligations are unaffected.

9. Software and third-party rights

The Linesmith licence grants permission to use the application; it does not assign the application's copyright or other intellectual property to you. Third-party software and downloaded model weights are governed by their own licences. Read the third-party notices supplied with the application.

These terms do not prohibit modification, replacement, reverse engineering for debugging modifications, source access or other activity allowed or required by those licences or mandatory law. In particular, the rights required by the GNU LGPL for applicable Qt and PySide components are preserved. A general product restriction does not override an open-source licence.

10. Remedies, changes and disputes

Report a defect or a licence problem to product support with enough information to reproduce it, avoiding unnecessary personal or confidential content. These terms do not exclude liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for deliberate misconduct or gross negligence where protected, personal injury, or mandatory consumer and data protection rights.

Subject to those exceptions and to the extent the law allows: there is no liability for indirect loss arising from use of Linesmith (such as lost profit, lost data, or third-party claims caused by output you publish). Any other liability is limited to the amount you paid for Linesmith in the twelve months before the loss. Keep backups of important files.

A material licence violation may be addressed with notice and a reasonable chance to remedy it where appropriate; urgent action may be necessary for unlawful activity or security threats. Any restriction must respect purchased rights and applicable law. New document versions carry a date and version identifier. Your local acceptance record identifies the document version you accepted.

Nothing here forces consumers to use a foreign court or arbitration instead of a legally competent consumer authority or court. Mandatory protection in your country of residence applies where the law provides it. If a clause cannot be enforced, the remaining lawful provisions continue to apply without reducing statutory rights.
